TARANG is the culture and media leg of SLD.
The goal of Tarang is to ensure that ‘invisible’ workers can access and assert their citizenship rights and are represented in the historical & cultural documentation of the burgeoning city of Gurgaon which is fast becoming an icon for new urban manufacturing and service centres in the world.
Tarang implements its goal through:
- building the capacity for expression and assertion of migrant workers in Gurgaon
- adding to the historical documentation of the diaspora of Gurgaon, through the creative
use of multi-media and performing arts
TARANG engages in a host of exciting events and activities with and for migrant workers in Gurgaon. From music sessions, to song-writing and photography workshops, film screenings, street plays and theatre workshops to cultural and media mapping and community-led documentation, Tarang works at the grassroots level to help build workers’ capacity for expression and assertion.
Future activities will see an increase in the creative use of media technology by and for the workers’ diaspora – both as a documenting and research tool, and as an active and interactive means of community expression..
