Position: Manager – Programs (Portfolio & Strategy) Hiring Urgently

Base Location: New Delhi (The role will require periodic travel to program locations)

About Us:

SLD works closely with women workers in seafood processing and allied sectors, with a strong emphasis on labour rights, gender justice, occupational health, and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Established in 2006, SLD has a pan-India presence, with physical offices in seven states and nationwide work carried out through collaborations with like-minded organizations.

Our work is grounded in long-term community engagement, research and documentation, capacity building, and the promotion of feminist leadership. In addition to advocacy and awareness-raising, SLD provides direct support to workers through legal aid, psycho-social counselling, non-formal adult literacy, and skill development programs. Our action-research focuses on the most pressing and complex issues faced by workers across multiple industries within the global supply chain.

Position Type: Full-Time, Fixed Term Contract 
Contract Period – 1 year, 6 months’ probation period.

Scope of work

The role is designed as a portfolio-level leadership role with organisation-wide responsibility for program design, implementation oversight, monitoring, and learning, while remaining closely rooted in field realities and organising practice.

The role also serves as a leadership track position, with scope for progression based on performance, the availability of funds, and organisational context.

Purpose of the Role:

The Manager - Programs (Portfolio & Strategy) will provide strategic and operational leadership across SLD’s programmatic work. The role is responsible for ensuring quality, coherence, and impact across multiple programs, supervising Program Managers, Leads, and Coordinators and serving as the primary programmatic counterpart to the Executive Director.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Program Portfolio Leadership

  • Provide overall leadership and oversight to SLD’s program portfolio.

  • Ensure coherence and integration across research, advocacy, and capacity-building interventions.

  • Lead organisation-wide program planning processes, including annual plans, donor-linked workplans, and longer-term strategic frameworks rooted in movement needs.

2. Program Design, Implementation & Quality

  • Guide the design and refinement of program strategies, theories of change, and implementation approaches grounded in organising and feminist praxis.

  • Support Programs Managers/Leads in translating strategy into field-responsive, worker-centred implementation.

  • Ensure program quality and relevance to workers lived realities and struggles.

3. Monitoring, Evaluation, Learning (MEL)

  • Strengthen and oversee monitoring and learning systems that are useful to field organisers and program teams, not only donors.

  • Ensure timely documentation, reflection, and collective learning across programs.

  • Support preparation of high-quality donor reports, internal reviews, and learning notes that reflect both impact and complexity.

4. Team Leadership & Management

  • Line-manage Programs Managers and Programs Leads, with clarity on roles, accountability, and decision-making.

  • Mentor senior program staff, particularly around strategic thinking, decision making, and people management.

  • Foster a collaborative, responsible and accountable team culture that values care, reflection, and rigour.

5. Strategic & Organisational Leadership

  • Work closely with the ED as a thought partner on organisational strategy, priorities, and risks.

  • Reduce over-dependence on the ED for day-to-day programmatic decision-making while escalating critical issues appropriately.

  • Represent SLD in selected spaces, alliances, and donor engagements, as delegated.

6. Fundraising & Donor Engagement

  • Work closely with the Manager - fundraising, supporting in proposal development, especially on program logic, strategy, and budgets.

  • Engage with donors on programmatic discussions and reporting in close coordination with the ED, while safeguarding SLD’s ethics, commitment, and values.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Gender Studies, Social Sciences, Gender Studies, Development Studies or any other relevant field of study. 

  • 6-7 years of experience in program leadership within NGOs or allied sectors.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and mentoring senior program staff.

  • Strong understanding of labour rights, gender justice, or allied social justice issues.

  • Proven ability to lead program design, monitoring, and learning processes.

  • Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Ability to work in conditions of uncertainty and organisational transition.

Leadership Track & Review

This role is conceived as a leadership development and consolidation position. Subject to satisfactory performance, organisational needs, and financial position, the role may be reviewed after 12 months for progression to Senior Programs Manager or an equivalent senior designation.

Remuneration

Given SLD’s current organisational size and financial context:

  • Salary band: 8.5 – 10 lakhs per annum (CTC)

  • The exact offer will depend on experience, role fit, and internal equity considerations.

Art Facilitator – GENDER, LABOUR & SRHR | Role Description

Do you enjoy using art and creative practices to engage young people on themes of gender, labour, body, identity, and care? 

Join us in building thoughtful, inclusive, and expressive learning spaces that support young people to explore Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) through art, storytelling, theatre, and other creative activities.

Position Summary 

SLD is seeking a creative, sensitive, and experienced Art Facilitator to support its Gender, Labour, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) programme through arts-based training, facilitation, and community engagement. The Art Facilitator will play a key role in designing and leading participatory, creative processes that enable young people to explore SRHR themes such as body, consent, gender, sexuality, identity, relationships, care, violence, and rights. 

The role involves integrating visual arts, theatre, storytelling, and other creative methodologies into Gender, Labour, and SRHR education and youth leadership development. The facilitator will work closely with programs team and youth fellows to build safe, reflective, and expressive spaces that allow for critical dialogue, collective learning, and self-expression. 

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in arts-based facilitation, working with diverse and marginalized youth communities, and applying creative methods within rights-based, gender-transformative, and trauma-informed frameworks. The role requires flexibility, deep listening, and the ability to adapt artistic processes to different social, cultural, and linguistic contexts. 

Location: Delhi and Veraval, Gujarat

Duration: February 2026 – March 2027 (Extendable as per the continuation of the project)

Remuneration: A remuneration of INR 5,000 per day will be provided, along with reimbursement of actuals as per SLD policy  for the days engaged. 

Key Responsibilities 

The role involves facilitating arts-based SRHR sessions with youth and community members using participatory and experiential methods, while creating safe, inclusive spaces for dialogue and expression on sensitive issues. It includes co-designing creative, culturally relevant modules aligned with programme and fellowship goals, translating complex Gender, Labour, SRHR themes into accessible activities, and adapting approaches to diverse contexts. The role also supports the SRHR youth fellowship through creative inputs, mentoring youth in art-based advocacy and storytelling, supporting youth-led creative outputs, and documenting learnings and reflections to strengthen programme design and impact. 

Inclusivity, Safety, and Ethics 

• Ensure that all art-based facilitation is grounded in human rights principles and is inclusive of gender, caste, class, sexuality, disability, and diverse identities. 
• Practice trauma-informed facilitation, with sensitivity to lived experiences of violence, stigma, and exclusion. 
• Uphold ethical standards related to consent, confidentiality, representation, and safe use of creative outputs. 

Qualifications and Experience 

  1. Bachelor’s degree (with at least 5 years’ experience) or Master’s degree (with at least 2 years’ experience) in Fine Arts, Applied Arts, Theatre, Labour and Development, Social Sciences, Social Work, Gender Studies, Public Health, Psychology, Education, or a related discipline. 

  2. Demonstrated experience in arts-based training and facilitation, particularly with adolescents and youth from marginalized or informal sector work contexts. 

  3. Strong experience in designing and leading participatory, creative workshops across diverse age groups and social settings. 

  4. Understanding of SRHR, gender, labour, and rights-based frameworks, with the ability to integrate these into creative processes. 

  5. Experience working in community-based programmes, youth leadership initiatives, or fellowship models is highly desirable. 

  6. Excellent facilitation and communication skills in Hindi and English; working knowledge of Gujarati is preferred. 

  7. Ability to travel frequently and conduct field-based sessions as per programme requirements. 

  8. Comfort with adapting art practices to low-resource, non-formal, and community settings. 

  9. Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and respectful engagement with young people. 

  10. Sensitivity to issues of caste, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, and socio-economic diversity.
