Art Facilitator – GENDER, LABOUR & SRHR | Role Description

Position Summary 

SLD is seeking a creative, sensitive, and experienced Art Facilitator to support its Gender, Labour, and Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) programme through arts-based training, facilitation, and community engagement. The Art Facilitator will play a key role in designing and leading participatory, creative processes that enable young people to explore SRHR themes such as body, consent, gender, sexuality, identity, relationships, care, violence, and rights. 

The role involves integrating visual arts, theatre, storytelling, and other creative methodologies into Gender, Labour, and SRHR education and youth leadership development. The facilitator will work closely with programs team and youth fellows to build safe, reflective, and expressive spaces that allow for critical dialogue, collective learning, and self-expression. 

The ideal candidate will have strong experience in arts-based facilitation, working with diverse and marginalized youth communities, and applying creative methods within rights-based, gender-transformative, and trauma-informed frameworks. The role requires flexibility, deep listening, and the ability to adapt artistic processes to different social, cultural, and linguistic contexts.

Duration: February 2026 – March 2027 (Extendable as per the continuation of the project)

Remuneration: A remuneration of INR 5,000 per day will be provided, along with reimbursement of actuals as per SLD policy  for the days engaged. 

Key Responsibilities 

The role involves facilitating arts-based SRHR sessions with youth and community members using participatory and experiential methods, while creating safe, inclusive spaces for dialogue and expression on sensitive issues. It includes co-designing creative, culturally relevant modules aligned with programme and fellowship goals, translating complex Gender, Labour, SRHR themes into accessible activities, and adapting approaches to diverse contexts. The role also supports the SRHR youth fellowship through creative inputs, mentoring youth in art-based advocacy and storytelling, supporting youth-led creative outputs, and documenting learnings and reflections to strengthen programme design and impact. 

Inclusivity, Safety, and Ethics 

• Ensure that all art-based facilitation is grounded in human rights principles and is inclusive of gender, caste, class, sexuality, disability, and diverse identities. 
• Practice trauma-informed facilitation, with sensitivity to lived experiences of violence, stigma, and exclusion. 
• Uphold ethical standards related to consent, confidentiality, representation, and safe use of creative outputs. 

Qualifications and Experience 

  1. Bachelor’s degree (with at least 5 years’ experience) or Master’s degree (with at least 2 years’ experience) in Fine Arts, Applied Arts, Theatre, Labour and Development, Social Sciences, Social Work, Gender Studies, Public Health, Psychology, Education, or a related discipline. 

  2. Demonstrated experience in arts-based training and facilitation, particularly with adolescents and youth from marginalized or informal sector work contexts. 

  3. Strong experience in designing and leading participatory, creative workshops across diverse age groups and social settings. 

  4. Understanding of SRHR, gender, labour, and rights-based frameworks, with the ability to integrate these into creative processes. 

  5. Experience working in community-based programmes, youth leadership initiatives, or fellowship models is highly desirable. 

  6. Excellent facilitation and communication skills in Hindi and English; working knowledge of Gujarati is preferred. 

  7. Ability to travel frequently and conduct field-based sessions as per programme requirements. 

  8. Comfort with adapting art practices to low-resource, non-formal, and community settings. 

  9. Commitment to ethical practice, confidentiality, and respectful engagement with young people. 

  10. Sensitivity to issues of caste, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, and socio-economic diversity.
