SLD strives for a society where workers are aware, self-reliant, fearless, and live in dignity

    About Us:

Society for Labour and Development (SLD) is a labour rights and support organization based out of the National Capital Region. Established in 2006, SLD has a pan India footprint and primarily addresses the rights and aspirations of workers with an emphasis on women workers. We extend unconditional support to especially those engaged in the numerous global supply chains. The thematic areas of Labour Education, Gender-Based Violence, Inter-state Migrant Workers' Rights, Global Production Network in the Garment, Leather and Seafood Processing Industries and Domestic Workers Rights are where SLD lays complete focus on with an aim to better the lives of millions. For more, visit: www.sld-india.org

    Who are we looking for?

A smart go getter, who not only has the experience, but more importantly the interest and enthusiasm to work in the labour and development space with a strong gender and migrant rights focus. But most importantly, the candidate should be a people’s person with good communications skills (written and verbal) in English and Hindi and have the ability to work cross functionally. We hope to bring together a cohort of candidates who will bring fresh perspectives and real-time solutions to the challenges faced by marginalized groups in the country

    Scope of work

The fellowship programme at SLD aims to target aspiring young minds, who are passionate about improving the lives of the working population and migrant workers. By bringing in young, smart, and creative professionals to shift the ecosystem in favour of migrant worker rights, this programme will give young people the opportunity to effect positive change at the grassroots level. The three-year fellowship programme's primary objective is to improve the lives of migrant workers through a rights-based approach.

    What to expect?

Workplace rights and dignity are essential human rights. But every day, millions of workers around the world experience abusive working conditions, pitiful wages, and humiliation and mistreatment at work. What rights do workers worldwide have? How are they different in India? What unique and disproportionate effects do women workers experience at work? How significant is the relationship between rights and the right to associate freely? And how do they relate to combating poverty, advancing equality, and encouraging civic engagement? In this programme, candidates will investigate these issues from a multi-level, interdisciplinary perspective. Candidates will gain knowledge and practical skills for advancing migrant workers' rights through a thoughtful combination of in-person lectures, video lectures, readings, online resources, and interviews with researchers and labour scholars from across India.
