Migration

Although migrant workers are the core contributors to economic growth, they are excluded from some of the most fundamental labour welfare provisions. SLD initiated the programme on Inter-state Migration (ISM) in order to develop a comprehensive strategy addressing issues of workers from both source and destination sites. Towards this objective, migration centres were conceptualized to serve as information and capacity building centres for network partners and migrant workers through a common database, ensure safe migration processes from source to destination sites through linking them with agencies who can provide assistance in cases of violation of rights and last but not the least, by providing them with access to rights and entitlements. The current emphasis of these centres is to track and support women garment workers in their transition and promoting their rights and entitlements.
