Legal Aid

SLDs engagement on the issue of unorganized sector workers and challenges related to rights and entitlements and years of research and data highlighted the need to have the backing of efficient and competent legal practitioners engaged in labour and human rights advocacy in the region to provide affordable and high-quality legal assistance to the workers of Gurugram and NCR.

Our researchers and fieldworkers were witnesses to some mass scale terminations, lockouts, factory closures and direct physical violence on the workers by the employers who were dead bent not to pay the legal dues of the workers. In the case of domestic workers and women garment workers, criminal acts like sexual harassment were taking place rampantly and the police were also unwilling to take cognizance of such matters brought up by women workers.

To address these issues, a legal team within SLD was constituted in 2012 with the primary objective to provide legal help to garment workers domestic workers and women workers in the region. The legal team at SLD which has been functional for more than 8 years now comprises of senior advocates and lawyers having requisite expertise and experience. Our lawyers majorly deal with industrial and labour matters, but they are equally equipped to also address issues that are of criminal nature, and women’s rights and human rights violations.
